STUDENTS IN THE NEWS
Brandon Berte ’09 (Communication and Media) presented a paper, “Rudolph Giuliani’s July 2007 Foreign Policy Address: The Spectre of 9-11 in the 2008 Presidential Election Campaign,” at the New York State Communication Association Convention in October in Kerhonkson. Also at the convention, Denise Martin ’09 (Communication and Media) presented a paper, “The Structure and Function of Implied Moral Argument in Anita Hill’s Senate Testimony: A Close Textual Analysis.”
Devin Kaminski ’09 (Communication and Media) won the Speaker Sheldon Silver Certificate of Recognition from the New York State Assembly. Kaminski interned at the Assembly last spring and was honored for his work debating a bill on microstamping at the mock Assembly session in May.
Thomas Schramm ’09 (Geology) and C. J. Hartwell ’09 (Geology) attended the Joint Meeting of the Geological Society in October in Houston with co-authors Alex Bartholomew (Geology) and Shafiul Chowdhury (Geology).
Absolute A Cappella, a co-ed student singing group on campus, competed and won first place in the Long Island A Cappella Challenge at Oyster Bay High School on Nov. 6. The group competed against six schools: University of Massachusetts, Boston University, Cornell University, Columbia University, Yale University and Harvard University. The group of 15 students is led by musical director Matthew Strebel ’09 (Music – Performance, Theory/Composition); president Emily Gnacik ’10 (Journalism – Public Relations); and Michael McGullam ’09 (Childhood Education, English).
