Kudos to Roberto Cruz ’12 (Journalism) for landing a job as a reporter at the Poughkeepsie Journal. “Cruz is the ninth New Paltz journalism graduate now on their staff,” said Professor Rob Miraldi (Journalism). “Now, more than a quarter of their news staff comes from New Paltz. It’s really remarkable.”

Cruz joins fellow journalism alumni Kevin Lenihan ’95, city editor; sports reporters Sean McMann ’96 and Phil Strum ’06; news reporters Sarah Bradshaw ’03, Chris Valdez ’11, Michael Cahill ’11, and Nina Schutzman ’09; and music critic John Barry ’93. Schutzman, Bradshaw, McMann, and Strumm have all recently received awards for their work. Cruz completed an internship at the Legislative Gazette in late December.

Miraldi noted, “The Journal likes what our graduates bring to the table: good solid training in the world of news, both old-fashioned and new-fangled.”
