Awards, Honors, Appointments and Recognition

Professor Michael Vargas (History, Latin American & Caribbean Studies) has been awarded the 2012 La Corónica International Book Award for his monograph “Taming a Brood of Vipers: Conflict and Change in Fourteenth-Century Dominican Convents.” The prize will be announced at the International Congress of Medieval Studies at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., May 9-12. It carries for the author an honorarium and an invitation to attend the Congress in the following year to preside over a special session dedicated to advancing the research themes of the awarded work.
