James Schiffer, dean of the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, will be stepping down from his position on June 30 to return to the faculty in the Department of English. He has served as dean since July 2008.
“I wish to devote the rest of my career to the things that first drew me to the profession: my love of teaching, literature, writing, and scholarship,” Schiffer said, when sharing his decision with LA&S faculty and staff.
Among Schiffer’s accomplishments are the building of the LA&S Advisory Board; the LA&S Student Advisory Group; the LA&S Summer Internship Scholarship program; the Center for Middle Eastern Dialogue and the events the college has sponsored each spring; the LA&S Alumni Speakers series; and The LENS, an e-newsletter initiated this year.
A reception will be held for members of the community to thank Dean Schiffer and wish him continued success in his new role on campus. Details will be announced soon.
“I want to thank Dean Schiffer for his contributions to the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, our students, and the broader community,” stated Provost Philip Mauceri. “Please join me in wishing him well as he returns to the faculty.”
