Breakout discussion held during the “Systemness Summit” at New Paltz

Representatives from SUNY campuses across southern New York came to campus on Monday, Oct. 21, to attend “Harnessing Systemness: Regional Discussions on Efficiency and Excellence.” The afternoon event included introductions by President Don Christian and SUNY Vice Chancellor for Shared Services and Regional Economic Development Brian Hutzley. Breakout discussions provided attendees with the opportunity to meet and collaborate with their peers.

In a statement announcing the summit, SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher said, “By sharing services with other campuses in our system, every SUNY college and university in New York has put itself in a better position to do more for its students.” Since launching its shared services initiative in August 2011, SUNY campuses have partnered to generate a net savings of more than $20 million. Those savings are being reinvested to expand academic and student services such as increased course offerings, the hiring of more full-time faculty, and strengthened academic support.
