Community values are focus of CRREO research group

Through its Regional Well-Being Project, the college’s Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach (CRREO) is seeking to identify shared community values in the Mid-Hudson region. The project, a major effort of the center, is funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, obtained with the assistance of New York’s U.S. Senator Charles Schumer. With an extensive portfolio of research, Lawrence Fialkow (Mathematics, Computer Science) was recently appointed to the State University of New York’s highest faculty rank – Distinguished Professor. Fialkow, who has taught at the college since 1983, said he is honored by the recognition. “Throughout ects with both faculty colleagues and students,” he said. Hallway connecting Haggerty and Student Union buildings closed during winter break

The lower-level corridor connecting the Haggerty Administration Building and the Student Union will be closed during the winter break, Dec. 19-Jan. 22, 2010. This closing will allow contractors to perform necessary work as part of the Student Union addition while students are away. The offices of Records and Registration, Administrative Services, Telecommunications, and Parking may be accessed from a side entrance in the Records and Registration office, located in the Haggerty Administration Building between the stairs (leading to the Welcome Center above) and the elevators. The annual Holiday Open House for academic and professional faculty and the Awards Luncheon for classified staff, including Research Foundation grants recipients and University Police, will take place in the coming weeks. The Open House, hosted by President Steven Poskanzer and his wife, Jane, will be held at their home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 12. Campus coat drive to benefit local charities

Facilities Operations Center and Environmental Health and Safety staff are sponsoring a coat drive from Dec. 10 to 18. Members of the campus community can drop off clean winter coats in either department’s office (both located in the Service Building) or at any one of the drop-off boxes located in the lobbies of the Haggerty Administration Building, Student Union, Athletic and Wellness Center or Jacobson Faculty Tower. Student marketing association’s wine tasting event rescheduled for February

The New Paltz student chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA) is hosting a wine event at the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in February. The date was originally scheduled for Dec. 9. The event, “Marketing Secrets of an Entrepreneur,” is co-sponsored with the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Conference and is open to everyone over the age of 21, including students, faculty, staff and business people.
