Alumnus wins national journalism award

Ivan Lajara ’02 (Journalism), editor at the Daily Freeman received national recognition as one of the premier young journalists across the nation by Editor & Publisher: America’s oldest journal covering the newspaper industry. Lajara was one of the “25 under 35” honored for demonstrating leadership and innovation in journalism. Born in Lima, Peru, Lajara came to the United States in 1995. Peri (Brooks) Schwabrow (Elementary Education/Geography ’99) earned an Advanced Certificate of Study in School Building Leadership from the College of Saint Rose in Albany. Andrea Varga (Theater Arts) led a group of 23 New Paltz students as part of the annual London Theatre Seminar in January for two weeks. In this newly created role, Johnson will oversee the organization’s social media development and strategy and spearhead the launch of its Social Media Council.
