			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Kristine Harris</strong> (History, Asian Studies) served as visiting associate professor at the University of Chicago in spring 2009. There she developed two new courses, Women Chinese Film and Shanghai Film Mediascape, for graduate students and undergraduates in cinema and media studies, East Asian languages and civilizations and gender studies. Harris also taught Chinese cinema at the University of Chicago in spring 2007. At New Paltz, she will offer a revised version of Shanghai Film Mediascape in spring 2010.</p>
<p><strong>Mary Kahl</strong> (Communication and Media) won the 2009 Neil Postman Award from the New York State Communication Association. The award, which was presented to Kahl at the organization’s convention in October, recognizes outstanding and sustained work with students in research endeavors within the discipline of communication.</p>

<p><strong>Mary Kahl </strong>(Communication and Media) was awarded the 2009 Feminist Scholar/Mentor Award by the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender. The award recognizes sustained scholarship about women’s communication practices and an exemplary record of academic mentorship. Kahl will receive the award in October at the annual OSCLG Conference in Los Angeles.</p>
<p>The New Paltz collegiate chapter of the American Marketing Association in the School of Business, under the direction of faculty adviser is <strong>Ted Clark</strong> (Business), is one of two chapters nationwide to be awarded a $500 grant from the International American Marketing Association Collegiate Division. The grant is to help support the organization’s regional conference which took place on Oct. 16 in van den Berg Hall.</p>
<p><strong>Mohammad Zunoubi </strong>(Electrical and Computer Engineering) was awarded the 2009 United States Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship. He spent 10 weeks at the Brooks City Air Force Base in Texas and conducted research related to advance techniques in computational electromagnetics. His work has already resulted in the submission of two journal papers and two invited national and international conference presentations to be held in January 2010.</p>

<p>The Business Advisory Council consists of 36 senior executives from the business community. The members provide input to the School of Business to insure that students are taught the skills, knowledge and ethical behaviors required for successful and satisfying business careers.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Daniel Jelski</strong>, dean of the<strong> </strong>School of Science and Engineering, has been awarded a subcontract from The Solar Energy Consortium for solar lab equipment funding. <strong>Mike Otis</strong> (Electrical Engineering) served as co-principal investigator on the project.</p>
<p><strong>Mary Kahl </strong>(Communication and Media) will receive the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language and Gender’s Feminist Scholar/Mentor Award for 2009 at the organization’s conference in October.</p>
<p>The Design and Printing Services office received an Award of Excellence from the University and College Designers Association (UCDA) for an exhibition catalog for the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art’s “Take a Different Tack: Maggie Sherwood and the Floating Foundation of Photography” exhibition earlier this year. <strong>Jeff Lesperance</strong> (Design Services) created the catalog that accompanied the exhibition, which ran at The Dorsky Museum from January 24 to April 8, 2009. The catalog was one of 257 winners selected out of 1,300 entries from the United States, Canada and other countries. The winning entries will be on display at the 39th Annual UCDA Design Conference in Seattle from Oct. 3-6.</p>

		<description><![CDATA[Jan Hammond (Educational Administration) was appointed to the Professional Standards and Practices Board for Teaching by the New York State Board of Regents. Hammond&#8217;s term will end on June 30, 2010. The board serves the Regents and the Commissioner of Education on teaching issues and related professions.

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Jan Hammond</strong> (Educational Administration) was appointed to the Professional Standards and Practices Board for Teaching by the New York State Board of Regents. Hammond&#8217;s term will end on June 30, 2010. The board serves the Regents and the Commissioner of Education on teaching issues and related professions.</p>
<p><strong>Sara Pasti</strong> (Museum) received sponsorship from the Greenway Heritage Conservancy HRV Inc. for the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art&#8217;s educational symposium, &#8220;Revisiting the Hudson: 19th Century Landscape Painting in Context.&#8221;</p>
<p><strong>L.H. Roper </strong>(History) has been named a co-general editor of the new Journal of Early American History and related book series, The American Colonies, 1500-1830, both published by Brill Academic Publishers of Leiden, the Netherlands. Roper will serve with Jaap Jacobs, a Dutch independent scholar, and Bertrand Van Ruymbeke of the University of Paris-8 in St. Denis. The journal will be housed in the Department of History at New Paltz and will publish its first number in early 2010. <p><strong>Gregory Bray</strong> (Communication and Media) received a bronze <a href="http://tellyawards.com/">Telly Award</a> for his documentary, &#8220;A Horse Connection.&#8221; Bray wrote, produced and directed the film, which focuses on a therapeutic horse riding program for persons with special needs. Students and alumni from the Communication and Media Department assisted in the project over the two-year production period. Bray previously received a CINE Golden Eagle Award for the piece.</p>
<p><strong>Tom Meyer </strong>(Secondary Education) and <strong>Jackie Denu</strong> (Secondary Education) have been awarded a Technology Grant for their project &#8220;Hudson Valley Writing Project &#8211; Technology Liaisons Network Mini-Grant&#8221; with the National Writing Project.</p>
