Oxford University Press has released “Mating Intelligence Unleashed: The Role of the Mind in Sex, Dating, and Love,” co-authored by Professor Glenn Geher (Psychology) with Scott Barry Kaufman (NYU). This book summarizes recent research on the interface of human mating and cognitive processes. Most of that research was conducted by the Evolutionary Psychology Lab at New Paltz. New Paltz student awarded Undergraduate Research Experience Travel Award

With the help of an Undergraduate Research Experience Travel Award (URETA), Sarath Manuel ’13 (Psychology) presented the results of his research at the 53rd Annual Psychonomic Society Meeting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which was held Nov. 15-18. Along with his mentor, Professor Navin Viswanathan (Psychology), he presented Sensitivity to VOT- Vowel Length Covariation in Spanish and English Monolinguals. Manuel researched his subject matter when he was a part of the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) funded by the Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities (RSCA) program. Outing Club video selected as contest finalist

A video made by New Paltz student Terence Gardner (Digital Media Production) for the College’s Outing Club was selected as one of four finalists in Polartec’s “Made Possible Challenge.” Finalists were selected by a panel of judges based on three criteria: passion for the outdoors; motivation/effort; and originality. Ultimately, the contest winner was decided by the number of votes the videos received on Polartec’s Made Possible Facebook page.

Dean Michael Rosenberg (Education) has received a $29,117 subcontract from Johns Hopkins University and the U.S. Department of Education Institute of Education Sciences for his project titled, “Double Check: A Cultural Proficiency and Student Engagement Model.” Professor Natalie Cartwright (Mathematics) has received a $110,257 grant from the U.S. Air Force Office of Science Research for her project titled, “A Research Program on Ultra-Wideband Electromagnetic Pulse Propagation Through Casual Media.” Professor Gerald Benjamin (Political Science), director of the Center for Research, Regional Engagement and Outreach (CRREO), has received a $4,000 grant from the Town of Greenburgh for his project titled,...

Remy LeDily ’13 (Communication Disorders) and Aileen Dolan ’13 (Communication Disorders), presented results of their work at the November 2012 American Speech and Hearing Association Convention in Atlanta, Ga.  Along with their mentor, Professor Inga Anema (Communication Disorders), they presented Effects of Updated vs Outdated Pictorial Stimuli on Naming Tests under the topic area Language Disorders in Adults. The students received a Student Travel Award (STA) from the Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities (RSCA). Information about the Student Travel Award is available here.

Kairos: A Consort of Singers announces the release of a new CD recording, “The Valley Sings: Choral Music by Composers of the Hudson Valley”, on the MSR Classics label. Kairos is directed by Professor Edward Lundergan (Music), artist-in-residence at Holy Cross Monastery in West Park. The CD features choral works, most never previously recorded, by composers who have lived and worked in the Hudson Valley region, including Aaron Copland, Peter Schickele and George Tsontakis.
