F&PA alumna nominated for NY Innovative Theatre Award

Kudos to Charlotte Pines ’09 (Theatre Arts)! At a sold-out event in New York City on July 23, Pines  received a nomination for a New York Innovative Theatre Award (IT Awards) . The nomination was for an  Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role award for her performance in Callous Cad. The event was attended by nearly 500 artists and guests. Professor David Richardson (Biology) co-authored a paper titled, “Ecosystem effects of a tropical cyclone on a network of lakes in northeastern North America.” The authors examined the effects of the fall 2011 storms (Irene and Lee) on regional lake physical and biological processes, including in a few reservoirs (Ashokan and Rondout) in our backyard. Professor Gerald Benjamin (Political Science), director of the Center for Research, Regional Engagement and Outreach (CRREO) has received a $10,450 grant from the City of Oneonta for his project titled, “Fixed price contract: Oneonta redistricting consulting services.” Benjamin has also received a $15,000 grant from Nicholas B. Ottaway Foundation, Inc. for his project titled, “Legislative Gazette internship program.” Professor Chirakkal Easwaran (Computer Science) has received a $5,000 grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for his project titled, “Revised proposal for Sloan Foundation campus grant to support professional science masters in computer science.”

Professor David Elstein (Philosophy) published an article titled “Beyond the Five Relationships: Teachers and Worthies in Early Chinese Thought” in Philosophy East and West (July 2012). The article examines the debate about the political status of virtuous people in early Chinese philosophy. Professor Greta Winograd (Psychology) co-authored “Children on the Autism Spectrum: Grandmother Involvement and Family Functioning” with Alison Sullivan and Jay Verkuilen (City University of New York, Graduate Center) and Marian C. On stage in NYC

Andrea Lynn Green ’09 (Theatre Arts) starred in “Blind Date” at the 59 E 59 Theatres in Manhattan, Aug. 12-18. The production was part of the Off-Broadway theater company Primary Stages’ program, “Harrison, TX: Three Plays by Horton Foote.” Read the review of the play that appeared in the New York Times. Green will return to campus for Reunion later this month, when she will participate in a panel discussion hosted by the School of Fine and Performing Arts.

Geography alumni win national award

Dave Luhan ’88 (Geography) and Doug Genzer ’93 (Geography) received a Special Achievement Award from Esri, a research and technology company, for their DenverGIS team’s successful project, “Parcel Fabric Conversion.” They coordinated and introduced a new data structure model, state-of-the-art tools, streamlined workflow processes and quality control for maintaining and updating information on lots, parcels, ordinances and surveys used by the Assessment Division and Public Works Survey Department for the city and county of Denver. Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History Laurence Hauptman was honored by the Seneca Nation of Indians.
