This March, student members of the New Paltz student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management, the Management Association, competed at the 2010 Northeast Regional HR Games held at Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania. New Paltz sent two teams of students, which were sponsored by the Mid-Hudson Human Resources Association. The undergraduate New Paltz student participants included Alexandra Curiale ’10 (Management/Marketing), Sridevi Dudhnath ’10 (Management), Terry Grandis ’11 (Business Administration), Yanna Guo ’10 (Marketing), Lakenya Moore ’10 (Marketing), and Evan Umansky ’10 (Mangement). New Paltz graduate and undergraduate students from the Department of Communication Disorders participated in the annual New York State Speech Language and Hearing Association conference this year, which was held in Saratoga Springs, April 8-10. Students attended multiple conference events that provided information about autism spectrum disorders, phonological awareness, pediatric dysphagia (swallowing disorders), and more. The students also participated in “Hollywood Squares,” a game-show like competition among several New York schools. The students won the competition against Brooklyn, Nazareth, and Mount Saint Mary College.

Gabriel Keehn ’10 (Philosophy) presented a paper at the 4th annual Undergraduate Conference in Medieval and Early Modern Philosophy, on Dec. 5, at Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa. Selected for presentation through a competitive process, Keehn’s essay – written this semester for Professor Bruce Milem’s class, Medieval and Renaissance Philosophy – is titled “The Infinite Climb: Augustine’s Proof of God and Questions of Hierarchy.” The paper focused on Augustine’s proof of God as laid out in “On Free Choice of the Will” and Keehn offers a nuanced criticism of Augustine’s assumption of a terminating hierarchy of greatness and considers...

Twenty-five students from New Paltz, including members of the American Marketing Association, visited Donald Trump’s multi-million dollar golf course in Westchester County on Oct. 9. The Trump National Golf Course, which covers more than 75,000 square feet, provides membership to more than 250 at an initial fee of $300,000. The students received a tour and attended a workshop on marketing to the affluent.

Tina Antonucci ’10 (History) was named this year’s scholarship recipient of the New Paltz Lifetime Learning Institute. Antonucci is a former member of the U.S. Coast Guard and plans to become an elementary school teacher. This is the second year that the organization awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a non-traditional student to assist with the purchase of books. The SUNY New Paltz Lifetime Learning Institute (LLI) is an all-volunteer educational and social organization for adults 55 and over. Alexandra Curiale ’10 (Management) was selected as the recipient of the 2009-2010 Human Resources Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship. This $750 scholarship was established in 2006 by Mid-Hudson Human Resources Association (MHHRA) to recognize and encourage New Paltz students interested in pursuing a career in the profession of human resource management.
