Other Interesting Endeavors

Yoav Kaddar (Theater Arts) accompanied 12 New Paltz students to the annual PULSE dance convention in Atlantic City, NJ. Private studios and dance schools from across the tri-state area participated in this large gathering of about 2,500 dancers. The students participated in two-days of workshops and master classes. PULSE holds such conventions nationally and abroad and awards $50,000 worth of scholarships per year to outstanding dancers picked by its faculty. Simone Bart ’12 (Theatre Arts) was awarded a scholarship to return to next year’s PULSE in Atlantic City. Bart is the choreographer for the Department of Theatre Arts main stage production of Babes in Arms in April. Her work will also be featured in this year’s Fresh Dance (March 4-7).

Joan Hollister (Business) and Sally Schultz (Business) were among the 25 scholars invited to Mount Vernon on Oct. 9 and 10 to participate in a planning conference on the Financial Papers of George Washington. Conference participants strategized about how best to digitize Washington’s records and begin making them available online. For more information about this project, visit http://tinyurl.com/ylhrobj.

READY, SET, CURE: A team of New Paltz faculty and their families participated in the Komen New York City Race for the Cure on Sept. 13 in Central Park. As of Sept. 14, the team has raised $2,810 with donations being accepted until Oct. 31. Politics,” Kathleen Dowley (Political Science), director of State University of New York Model European Union, and a group of students attended the Harvard National Model United Nations conference in Boston from Feb. 12-15. Other Interesting Endeavors

The Facilities Management staff attended a health and safety training during the week of Jan. 12. The training was held in conjunction with the Human Resources Department’s HR Connections Now Quality Programs, a customer service program. Sue Boyer (Facilities Operations), Gary Buckman (Facilities Operations), Pat Dewitt (Custodial), Kim Nelson (Facilities Operations), Heather Puchaliski (Facilities Operations) and Jen Wait (Human Resources) were instrumental in organizing and facilitating the event, which was held in the Coykendall Science Building and the Lecture Center.

Runners with a cause: A team of college employees and their families participated in the Komen New York City Race for the Cure in September and raised more than $2,000. OTHER INTERESTING ENDEAVORS

The annual joint meeting of the SUNY New Paltz Management Association (MA) and Mid-Hudson Human Resources Association (MHHRA) is scheduled for Oct. 23 at the College Terrace. The evening will begin with networking and registration at 5:15 p.m., followed by dinner at 6 p.m. and a Test Your HR Knowledge game show event. Nine nursing students from Niimi College in Niimi, Japan, – New Paltz’s sister city – visited the Nursing Department at New Paltz on Sept. 9 where they learned about nursing education in the United States, took a tour of van den Berg Hall and attended a brief orientation of the New Paltz program led by department chair Eleanor Richards (Nursing). The New Paltz International Exchange Association arranged the visit.
