Doug Sheppard Classic scheduled for June 15 Members of the campus community will take to the greens on Monday, June 15, for the Doug Sheppard Classic Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament. The event will take place at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston beginning at 8 a.m. with breakfast and registration. The shotgun start of the four-person scramble format takes place at 9 a.m. The tournament is named in memory of the longtime professor, administrator and coach, Doug Sheppard, who died in 2008. SUNY Hawk traveling to Texas The SUNY Hawk Solar Car Racing Team, led by Mike Otis (Electrical Engineering), is participating in the Formula Sun Grand Prix in Cresson, Texas, from June 1 to 5. This is the first year the team, which is comprised of eight students from across the disciplines, is competing. The students designed and built the solar car over the past academic year. CRREO discusses regional jailing in second study brief The Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach (CRREO) released a discussion brief titled “A Collaborative, Regional Approach to Jailing in the Hudson Valley.” This is the second publication in a planned series of discussion briefs on regional issues. Faculty and staff to be honored with annual end-of-the-year picnic Recipients of the Classified Staff Presidential Award Program will be honored at the all Faculty and Staff Appreciation Picnic and Barbecue on Tuesday, May 19, on the Old Main Quad. Roof replacements scheduled for summer Facilities Management will be replacing the roofs of three academic buildings and one residence hall this summer. Immediately following commencement, work will begin on the Humanities Building, Hasbrouck Dining Hall, the Service Building and College and Shango halls. An anticipated date of completion is mid-August. There will be staging areas and minimal loss of parking spaces around all of the sites. Each building will be open for the duration of the projects. Library notices go green The Sojourner Truth Library will distribute all library notices by e-mail in an effort to increase efficiency. Notices will be e-mailed to borrowers’ campus (“newpaltz.edu”) e-mail addresses. Borrowers can also view information about their library loans and renew library materials online.

College president, Institute for Disaster Mental Health director to receive Red Cross awards The Ulster County Chapter of the American Red Cross will honor College President Steven Poskanzer and James Halpern, director of the Institute for Disaster Mental Health, at its 10th annual Founder Award Dinner on June 5 at Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston.
