			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><strong>Alexandra Curiale</strong> &#8216;10 (Management) was selected as the recipient of the 2009-2010 Human Resources Leader of Tomorrow Scholarship. This $750 scholarship was established in 2006 by Mid-Hudson Human Resources Association (MHHRA) to recognize and encourage New Paltz students interested in pursuing a career in the profession of human resource management. An active executive board member of the Management Association (MA) and a national student chapter member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), Curiale has also spearheaded a number of initiatives, including organizing a student chapter company visit to Vassar Brothers Medical Center and an on-campus blood drive with the American Red Cross. She will serve as the Management Association president for the 2009-2010 year.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>New Paltz Management Association recognized with seventh Superior Merit Award</h3>
<p>For the seventh year in a row, the college&#8217;s student chapter of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Management Association (MA), has been awarded the Superior Merit Award. The national recognition is awarded to promote outstanding activities and projects by the organization&#8217;s student chapters, as well as to recognize an exceptional year of providing opportunities for development and growth to its student chapter members.</p>
<p>The New Paltz MA was one of 96 student chapters throughout the nation to earn the Superior Merit Award designation. The award places the college in the top 21 percent of student chapters nationwide. The Management Association was also one of four State University of New York chapters to receive the award.</p>
<p>The 2008-2009 board members were <strong>Alexandra Curiale</strong> &#8216;10 (Management), <strong>Cassy Folken</strong> &#8216;09 (Management), <strong>Joelle Hopf</strong> &#8216;09 (Art History), <strong>Marisel Lewi</strong>s &#8216;09 (Management), <strong>Shaina Miller</strong> &#8216;09 (Management), <strong>Nicole Miraglia</strong> &#8216;11 (Business Administration), <strong>Stacey Smiel</strong> &#8216;09 (Management) and <strong>Kim Stahl </strong>&#8216;09 (Management). <strong>Kristin Backhaus</strong> (Business) is adviser to the group.</p>

<p class="MsoNormal">The Ulster County Chapter of the American Red Cross will honor College President <strong>Steven Poskanzer</strong> and <strong>James Halpern</strong>, director of the Institute for Disaster Mental Health, at its 10th annual Founder Award Dinner on June 5 at Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston. The event, which also celebrates the Red Cross’s 100 years in Ulster County, begins with cocktails and a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner, awards and music at 7 p.m. Tickets are $125. <p><strong>Pauline Uchmanowicz </strong>(English) has been selected as full-time Teacher of the Year and <strong>John Palenscar</strong> (History) was named part-time Teacher of the Year.</p>
<p>Both recipients will have their names added to the Teacher of the Year plaque, which is located in the Jacobson Faculty Tower lobby. Uchmanowicz and Palenscar will also receive $1,000 for professional development.</p>
