The Hawk Station

The Hawk Station

By repurposing counters and equipment and renovating existing space, Campus Dining Services has created two new late-night retail operations this fall.

The Hawk Station and the S-Stop opened in the lobby of the Hasbrouck Dining Hall on

Aug. 23. The two stores each have a subway theme complete with new stainless steel counters and faux I-beams.

Ralph Perez-Rogers, general manager of Campus Dining Services, said the projects were done in green fashion. The majority of the equipment and counters from Oscar’s, the DVD store and even the deli in the Student Union have been repurposed in either Hawk Station or S-Stop. New equipment – such as a new griddle and charbroiler in Hawk Station – was purchased only if it needed to be upgraded. The walls, ceilings and flooring from the previous establishments were kept.

Changes were also made to the lobby of Hasbrouck. The entrance to the upstairs dining hall was relocated, so traffic from the Hawk Station and Hasbrouck would no longer collide. A new recycling and garbage station was also constructed in the lobby.

The larger of the two, Hawk Station, is located where Oscar’s was previously located. In addition to grilled items, the eatery offers panini, pasta, coffee and a variety of grocery items including cereal, ice cream and chips. Next door, the S-Stop, formerly the Watch Me DVD store, offers hot and cold deli items.

Perez-Rogers said the entire project took nine weeks and both stores opened on schedule.

Now entering their second weeks of operation, Perez-Rogers said his staff are taking students’ suggestions seriously and making adjustments as the late-night destinations settle in.

Right now, the establishments have the same hours. However, since the operations are independent of one another, Perez-Rogers said there is a possibility that could change based on feedback.

Hawk Station and S-Stop are open seven days a week. The hours are 7 p.m.-midnight on weekdays and 6:30 p.m.-midnight on weekends.
