Tina Antonucci ’10 (History) was named this year’s scholarship recipient of the New Paltz Lifetime Learning Institute. Antonucci is a former member of the U.S. Coast Guard and plans to become an elementary school teacher. This is the second year that the organization awarded a $1,000 scholarship to a non-traditional student to assist with the purchase of books. The SUNY New Paltz Lifetime Learning Institute (LLI) is an all-volunteer educational and social organization for adults 55 and over.

A number of Communication and Media students created media for the Woodstock Film Festival Web site and for their YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/woodstockfilmfestiva. The students created more than 30 videos over the course of five days. The videos include interviews with Academy Award Winning director Jonathan Demme, actor Ben Foster, filmmaker Barbara Hammer, and many others. They also created media featuring Uma Thurman, Woody Harrelson, Lucy Liu, and Richard Linklater among many others. Students working on this production include Chanel Arias ’10, Dan Barry ’10, Stefan Beaumont ’10, Deanna DiBenedetto ’11, Chelsea Feil ’11, Julie-Ann Florio ’10, Spencer Hood ’11, Ian Kane ’10, Colleen Kelly ’10, Yuriy Leschuck ’10, Laura Martel ’10, Randy Moses ’11, Marc Schreibman ’11, Morgan Smith ’11, Lakendra Stith ’10, Cat Tosiello ’10, Tevita Toutaiolepo ’10, Katherine Vidal ’11, Roshanna Wallerson ’10, Mark Walsh ’11, Tina Warren ’10 and Matthew Wright ’11. Communication and Media instructors Gregory Bray and Joseph Vlachos supervised the production.

Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach offers public-service scholarship

The Center for Research, Regional Education and Outreach (CRREO) has established a year-long, full-tuition scholarship and internship for New Paltz juniors who are interested in a career in public service.

The Cetrino Family Scholarship covers tuition and fees (totaling $5,141) and an annual living stipend of $7,400, in addition to the paid internship. The scholarship was established by Tom Cetrino ’73 (Political Science) in honor of his parents and in collaboration with the SUNY New Paltz Foundation.

Applicants should be entering their junior year at the college, have financial need, and be willing to accept a paid internship at CREEO for an average of 15 hours per week during the school year and summer.

Interested students should apply no later than Friday, Sept. 18, to the Financial Aid Office in the Haggerty Administration Building, room 603, with a letter of interest, an unofficial transcript, and recommendations from two faculty members.

Annual scholarship golf tournament set for June 15

The Doug Sheppard Classic, the college’s annual scholarship golf tournament, is scheduled for Monday, June 15.

The event, now in its 11th year, takes place at the Wiltwyck Golf Club in Kingston. Registration and breakfast begin at 8 a.m. and the shotgun start of the four-person scramble format takes place at 9 a.m.

The $200 entry fee includes 18 holes of golf with cart, refreshments on the course, beverage carts, tournament logo gear and awards banquet dinner. Each player is eligible for awards, contests and prizes that will be presented at a banquet dinner at 3 p.m. in the Wiltwyck Golf Club Ballroom. The banquet is open to non-golfers, as well, for $50.

Proceeds from the event will go toward a scholarship endowment for New Paltz students.

Doug Sheppard was a former professor, coach and administrator at New Paltz. For 32 years, he was coach of the Hawk’s golf team. Sheppard died in January 2008.
